Billionaire Elon Musk made it clear on Thursday that although he wants Twitter to lift the permanent ban on former President Donald Trump, that does not mean he supports Trump in the run-up to a 2024 presidential campaign.
Musk is the richest man in the world and CEO of Tesla, while trying to close a deal to acquire Twitter.
He told a Financial Times conference yesterday that Twitter’s decision to ban access to Trump “was unethical.”
Musk followed up on his remarks in a post Thursday night, clarifying that he did not support Trump as a presidential candidate.
“Although I think a less divisive candidate would be better in 2024, I think Trump should be reinstated on Twitter,” he said.
Trump has stated that he does not want to return to Twitter, as he has already created his own social networking site, Truth Social.
The former US president was permanently banned from Twitter in January 2021 because of the risk of “further incitement to violence,” after his followers invaded the US Capitol, as then announced by Twitter Inc.
Trump is considering running for president of the United States in 2024, following his failed re-election campaign in 2020.
