US: Nearly 192,000 Immigrants Arrested at Southern Borders in September

About 192,000 Immigrants They were arrested while trying to cross the US border illegally from Mexico in September, with their numbers down from levels recorded earlier in the summer but much higher than the same month last year.

Last month, Authorities halt 192,001 migrant attempts to cross border, down 9% from August, as announced yesterday by the federal border guard service. In September 2020, their number was below 58,000.

The number of people arrested per month has recently been very high based on historical data. In July, for example, it had risen to its highest level in over 20 years with about 213,000 people.

For the entire financial year of USA – which lasted from October 2020 to September – 1.73 million people were arrested, the highest number ever recorded for the 12-month period. During the same period a year earlier, 458,000 arrests were made.

Most migrants are deported immediately by the American authorities. Many are trying their luck again. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said a quarter of all immigrants arrested in September were people who had already been arrested at least once in the past 12 months.

According to the same service, the number of unaccompanied children and minors arrested fell by 24% in September from the previous month to about 14,400.

President Joe Biden is under increasing pressure on the large number of immigrants arriving at the southern border of the United States. Republicans accuse Democrat Biden of creating a crisis with his more liberal immigration policies.
