Washington today announced new sanctions against Russia, this time targeting the technology sector. Among the companies that will be affected is the largest manufacturer of semiconductors.
The US Treasury Department said sanctions were imposed on “21 entities and 13 individuals in connection with the crackdown on networks that circumvent (previous) sanctions” and “technology companies that play a key role in the Russian Federation’s war machine.”
The US believes that Serniya Engineering is at the heart of the “network” set up to circumvent the sanctions already imposed. Washington has also targeted Mikron, “Russia’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, which” exports more than 50 percent of Russia’s microelectronic components. ”
“The Russian military is dependent on Western technologies for the operation of its defense industry,” the ministry said. For this reason, OFAC (Foreign Assets Control Service) targets “the major Russian technology companies” that are contributing to the war against Ukraine.
