US nuclear arsenal revealed – 1,419 nuclear warheads and 800 launchers

The dimensions of the American nuclear arsenal were revealed yesterday by the diplomacy of the USAexplaining that he means to continue to abide by the New START nuclear disarmament treaty and urging Russia – which suspended its participation in it earlier this year – to do the same.

Russia suspended its membership of the treaty in February in retaliation for Western military aid to Ukraine. Her decision was roundly condemned by Western governments.

The New START treaty, signed in 2010, is the last bilateral agreement for the nuclear disarmament between the Russians and the Americans. Moscow had already announced in early August that it had suspended planned inspections of its military facilities.

New START limited the nuclear arsenals of the two states, the world’s largest, to a maximum of 1,550 deployed nuclear warheads each, in other words reducing them by almost 30% compared to 2002, when previous limits were agreed, such as broadcasts the Agence France-Presse and the Athens News Agency. It also limited the number of launchers and strategic bombers to a maximum of 800.

The treaty provided for verifications of the arsenals, mutually. Inspections have been suspended due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The government of the current US President Joe Biden made an effort to restart, in vain.
