Oil inventories in the United States fell by 1.863 million barrels to 411.562 million barrels in the week ended March 4, the Department of Energy (DoE) said on Wednesday. Analysts consulted by The Wall Street Journal forecast a decline of 400 thousand barrels.
Gasoline inventories, in turn, dropped 1.405 million barrels in the week, to 244.606 million barrels, compared to expectations for a drop of 1.9 million barrels.
Distillates had a drop of 5.23 million barrels, to 113.874 million barrels, against a forecast of a decline of 1.9 million barrels.
Oil inventories at Cushing fell by 585,000 barrels to 22.221 million barrels.
Refinery utilization rates rose from 87.7% in the previous week to 89.3%, compared with analysts’ forecast of 88.1%.
Average daily production in the US, meanwhile, remained at 11.6 million barrels, according to the DoE.
