US private sector job creation totaled 132,000 jobs in August, after gaining 270,000 in July, the ADP National Employment Report showed on Wednesday.
ADP’s report was put on hold for June and July as the company overhauled the data methodology after a poor track record in predicting the reading of private job openings in a broader employment report from the US Department of Labor.
The ADP data is now developed in conjunction with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, and includes a new wage measure. Historical data from the last 12 years were referenced.
The report comes ahead of the more comprehensive and closely watched employment data from the Labor Department, due out on Friday.
According to a Reuters poll of economists, private job creation was likely 300,000 in August, up from 471,000 in July.
With no public sector job gains forecast, that would leave the overall job opening outside the agricultural sector at 300,000. The US economy created 528,000 jobs in July.
