US: Records highest number of flu hospitalizations in a decade

At USA the highest levels are recorded hospitalizations due to flu for a decade this time of year, announced the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Rochelle Walensky.

He added that since the start of this year’s flu season, 14 young people have died.

At a news conference on Monday (12/5), Walensky told reporters that US hospitals continue to be under pressure due to the high number of patients hospitalized for other respiratory illnesses, such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and the Covid-19.

The flu virus usually appears between October and May, with a peak in December and January.

This year it appeared six weeks earlier in the United States, with high incidence rates of 880,000 cases, 6,900 hospitalizations and 360 deaths due to the flu virus, according to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
