US removes South Korea from US sanctions against Russia

South Korea has been exempted from extended US export restrictions on Russia due to the situation in Ukraine. South Korean Commerce Minister Ye Han-gu arrived for a meeting in Washington on Thursday. The two sides agreed to include South Korea on the list of countries exempt from the United States-imposed Foreign Direct Product Regulation (FDPR).

The US assessed that South Korea’s sanctions against Russia are well in line with international standards and announced its decision to include South Korea on the list of FDPR-exempt countries.

US removes South Korea from US sanctions against Russia

Last week, the US government announced the Foreign Direct Product Regulation (FDPR) to prevent Russia from having access to the world’s high-tech products, including semiconductors. After that, companies that want to continue deliveries to Russia must obtain a license from the United States for goods manufactured using American technology. In South Korea, fears have arisen that these will affect large South Korean exporters using American technology and software.

Earlier it was reported that South Korea will continue to supply smartphones, cars and household appliances to Russia.
