US: Russians discouraged by Ukrainian resistance, Pentagon says

Russian forces are increasingly discouraged by what the United States believes is a viable and very determined uranium resistance, and Moscow is increasingly involving troops in its invasion, a senior Pentagon official said today.

The official, who asked not to be named, also said that it seems that the Russian commanders did not anticipate having enough fuel even for basic logistical support and are now trying to adjust.

“We estimate that more than 50% of the power that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin has amassed against Ukraine (…) is now involved” in the country, the high-ranking official explained. “I think it’s safe to assume we’re talking about tens of thousands, but I will not be more specific.”

“We also continue to see signs of a viable Ukrainian resistance,” he added. “We believe that the Russians are becoming increasingly discouraged as they lose momentum in the last 24 hours, especially in northern Ukraine,” he said.

According to him, as of this afternoon, the Russian armed forces had fired more than 250 missiles at targets in Ukraine.

Most were short-range missiles, the official said.

Contrary to Russian claims, the missiles “undoubtedly” hit “political infrastructure and residential areas,” he added.
