The U.S. financial system security agency has created an educational tool to combat the illegal use of digital assets.
The United States Secret Service (USSS) has announced that it is launching a Cryptocurrency Awareness Center. The online resource will have to provide the public with up-to-date information on the fight against cryptocrime and inform citizens about the security of digital currencies.
USSS has existed since 1865 and specializes in protecting the country’s economy and financial system. For more than 150 years, as representatives of the service say, they have managed to learn how to effectively detect and prevent economic crimes.
Jeremy Sheridan, assistant director of the service, said the center will investigate financial crimes. The announcement emphasizes that USSS does not intend to fight cryptocurrencies themselves, as it sees them as a popular and useful form of payment:
“Investments and transactions using digital assets are not inherently a crime.”
According to Sheridan, the service will try to join forces with cryptocurrency issuers and technology companies to inform the public in a timely manner.
Recall, according to the latest study by Pew Research, only 24% of Americans are familiar with digital currencies.
