The Secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austin, informed this Sunday night (2) that he tested positive for Covid-19. On social media, the retired general said he has mild symptoms and is following his doctor’s instructions.
Following the new rules of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Austin will have isolation at home for the next five days, and intends to participate in the important meetings virtually “as soon as possible”.
The Secretary is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, having received the booster dose in October of last year.
Austin briefed his team and President Joe Biden about his Covid-19 infection. He last met Biden on December 21, nearly two weeks before he developed symptoms of the illness. The Secretary was at the Pentagon last Thursday (12/30).
