US Secretary of State Blinken travels to Guatemala to participate in the regional meeting on immigration

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will travel to Guatemala on Tuesday to attend a regional meeting on migration, the State Department announced yesterday. Blinken's visit comes as record numbers of migrants, mainly from Central America and Venezuela, are trying to enter the US to escape poverty, violence and the effects of climate change. Between October and February, nearly 130,000 Guatemalans crossed the US-Mexico border illegally, according to US Border Protection. During the same period, US law enforcement agencies prevented about 1.15 million immigrants from entering the country.
