Bombers, which can carry nuclear weapons, are brought to Australia by the US. The transfer of American bombers is done with an eye on China. More specifically, the USA plan the development to six B-52 bombers that they have the ability to bring nuclear warhead at an air base in northern australia, as reported today by Australia’s national broadcaster (ABC). This move is estimated to further escalate the tension with Beijing.
Infrastructure to support the aircraft will be organized at its remote Tyndall base Air Force Australia, located 300 kilometers south of Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, ABC’s “Four Corners” reported, citing US documents. However, the office of Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Australia’s long-range bomber deployment capability sends one strong message to US adversaries about Washington’s ability to project lethal air power, according to the US Air Force, which ABC cited in its broadcast. The same region of Australia often hosts military cooperation with the US. Thousands of US Marines are deployed annually in rolling missions to conduct training and joint exercises with the Australian armed forces. The frame this defense cooperation was activated during the presidency of Barack Obama.
Earlier this year, the US deployed four B-52 bombers to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. Last year, the US, Britain and Australia launched the framework for a security agreement to provide Australia with the technology to develop nuclear-powered submarines, angering Beijing, the Athens News Agency reported.
The development of B-52 aircraft in Australia with their ability to strike targets in mainland China, it will be a warning to the Beijing, as fears grow of a Chinese attack on Taiwan, according to an assessment by the Center for a New American Security based in Washington and were featured on ABC
