US soldier sentenced to 14 years in prison for trying to work with Islamic State

A 24-year-old United States soldier who admitted trying to support the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group in planning attacks against American forces in the Middle East was sentenced Friday to 14 years in prison. In this effort, he had conveyed information to FBI agents who approached him as alleged members of the jihadist organization. Cole Bridges, who enlisted in the US military in 2019, pleaded guilty in June 2023 to charges of attempting to provide material assistance to a foreign terrorist organization and attempted murder of members of the US armed forces. As the case file states, in October 2020 Bridges was approached by an undercover FBI agent, who he urged to launch attacks in New York.
