The opening of business was mixed, in a context of volatility on the day of the beginning of the Jackson Hole Symposium, in which there is expectation for the speech of Federal Reserve Chairman (Fed, the US central bank), Jerome Powell, on Friday . This Thursday, on the stock exchanges, news from the corporate sector was monitored and affected some papers, while indicators were not decisive in the journey.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.98% to 33,291.78 points, the S&P 500 rose 1.41% to 4,199.12 points and the Nasdaq rose 1.67% to 12,639.27 points.
New York futures ran out of steam, but continued to rise, following data from the United States, including Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The second reading of the data showed a contraction of 0.6% in the second quarter in the country, in annualized numbers, confirming a technical recession, but with some analysts also seeing positive aspects in the data.
The mixed opening in New York gave way to gains, initially modest, but later more robust. American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) from large Chinese companies showed gains, after a report by the Wall Street Journal to report, from sources, that China and the US may agree on an audit of Chinese companies listed in New York, which would take place in Hong Kong.
Among stocks in focus, Peloton Interactive fell 18.32%, after the company in the fitness equipment sector published a balance sheet with a strong loss. Tesla retreated 0.35% on the day a split of its shares (from one to three) took effect. Citigroup, on the other hand, posted a 2.06% gain after saying it would sell the remainder of its retail banking business in Russia in the face of the war in Ukraine and subsequent sanctions against Moscow. After a positive balance on Wednesday, Snowflake closed up 23.07%.
Among other important stocks, JPMorgan rose 2.37% and Goldman Sachs, 1.33%, among banks. Apple recorded a rise of 1.49%, Amazon rose 2.62% and Meta, 3.38%. Boeing also showed strength, up 3.53%.
