The S&P 500 ended higher on Thursday, with Pfizer and Tesla sustaining a late-session rally as investors watched the war in Ukraine and a potentially more aggressive US central bank.
The S&P 500 index closed up 0.43% at 4,500.21 points. The Dow Jones rose 0.25% to 34,583.57 points. The Nasdaq Composite technology index rose 0.06% to 13,897.30 points.
Tesla Inc rose 1.2% and Microsoft, 0.6%. Both helped lift the S&P 500 and provided modest gains to the Nasdaq technology index.
Also backing the S&P 500, Pfizer Inc jumped 4.3% after saying it would buy ReViral Ltd in a deal worth up to $525 million, its second acquisition in less than six months to grow its drug portfolio.
The S&P 500 was trading lower for much of the day before rallying towards the end of the session.
Among the 11 S&P 500 indices, the real estate sector was among the most down, while the health sector was among the highest.
