US: Supreme Court Refuses to Suspend Texas Abortion Law

The Supreme Court of the USA announced today that it will consider November 1st Texas law for abortions, refusing, at the same time, to suspend its application.

It is recalled that the administration of the president Joe Biden appealed to the Supreme Court on Monday to block this law, which prohibits any abortion, once the fetal heartbeat is detectable, around 6 weeks of gestation, when most women are unaware that they are even pregnant.

In addition, Texas law includes a unique provision, according to telegrams from AFP and Reuters: It “exclusively” entrusts citizens with respect for the measure. urging them to take legal action against organizations or individuals assisting women in carrying out illegal abortions under this provision.

The Supreme Court, where conservative judges prevail, according to the same sources, had already been summoned for the first time to rule on the matter and had referred to “new procedural issues” in order to refuse, on September 1, to block law enforcement. He had not ruled on the substance.

The federal government had then entered the court arena, submitting complaint on its behalf to the detriment of Texas, and the reactions of civil society actors are strong, even individual doctors.
