US teacher forces boy with alopecia to take off cap at school

A Florida mother was outraged after her 11-year-old son's teacher forced him to remove his cap, which covers up a medical condition, then ridiculed the boy. The school denies the incident took place.

The case took place in the city of Jacksonville. Mom, Sarra Brown, didn't mince words when she described how she felt when she received a phone call from her son on Thursday (25).

“I'll be very honest: I was angry,” she said.

Brown said her son, Cameron Murray, was still on campus at Westview Prek-8 School.

“So my concern was, why did the teacher tell him to take off his cap?” she said.

According to the mother, the teacher in question, who does not teach her son, also cursed him.

The boy wears a cap because he has alopecia areata, a disease that leads to hair loss. Brown said her son is allowed to wear the hats and has worn them throughout the school year. Murray started losing his hair around the age of seven. At 11, he only has a few strands left.

The mother said the incident with the teacher is so upsetting because her son was bullied by other students because of his condition. Some even ripped off his cap.

“We can’t know if what is said will not contribute to them committing suicide,” she said. “Anyone who works with children needs to be able to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, and I understand that sometimes it is difficult working with children – there is always a lot going on – but I feel they should have removed him immediately. .”

The Duval County School District said in a statement that at no time did the student or teacher remove the cap, saying school leaders confirmed the student had permission to wear it and contacted the student's family. about this incident.
