US: The risk of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine exists, but not imminent

The risk of using Russian chairman Vladimir Putin nuclear weapons in Ukraine war is present but does not appear to be “imminent,” said White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan.

“There is a risk, given Putin’s levity and belligerence” and Washington “he was very clear about what the consequences would be”, Sullivan told reporters. But he added that “currently we see no indications” for something like that.

The United States of America they will announce within the next week the shipment of new weapons to Ukraine, Sullivan said. It will be done “an announcement next week about sending aid immediately”he said, recalling that Washington has already promised Ukraine that it will continue to supply it with weapons.

Among these weapons systems are 18 HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, but they will have to be built first.

Earlier, Congress approved $12.3 billion in aid for Ukrainein the context of the bill that approves the so-called “temporary” budget and thus avoids the interruption of the operation of federal services. This new aid package gives President Biden the right to ask the Pentagon to transfer $3.7 billion worth of military equipment to Ukraine. It also provides for $4.5 billion to help Kyiv avoid a deviation from fiscal targets.

With this new package, US aid to Ukraine reaches $65 billion since the start of the war.
