US: Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters take to the streets

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in the United States on Saturday to protest their support for the Palestinians in the ongoing conflict with Israel, on the day that US President Joe Biden spoke with the leaders of the two sides.

About 2,000 protesters gathered in New York, in the Brooklyn district, shouting slogans such as “Freedom in Palestine” and waving Palestinian flags, notes the APE-MPE.

Rallies were also held in other US cities, notably Boston and Washington.

“Palestinians have the right to live freely and children should not be killed in Gaza,” said Allison Samprano, a 20-year-old student who traveled from nearby Connecticut to New York to protest.

“I tell Biden and his government to stop supporting the murder. “Support the victims, stop the oppression,” said Masour Ahmad, a 73-year-old Palestinian who has lived in New York for the past 50 years.

Joe Biden expresses “great concern” to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on escalating violence in Israel and the Gaza Strip, while telling Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that Hamas must “stop firing rockets.”

Tens of thousands of people protested Saturday in several cities in Canada and Europe. In France, an estimated 22,000 people mobilized, including about 3,000 in Paris. Several thousand demonstrated in London, as well as in Berlin and Madrid.
