Climate will be an “important topic of discussion” between the United States and Brazil during the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on Wednesday.
“Open, transparent and democratic elections” should also be on the agenda for discussion between the two countries, Sullivan said.
Presidents Joe Biden and Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will meet in person for the first time this week, while the summit takes place.
The meeting between the leaders should take place on Thursday (9). Biden arrived at the summit today, while Bolsonaro embarks on Wednesday night.
THE CNN US Under Secretary for the Americas Brian Nichols had already anticipated that environmental issues would be a topic of conversation.
“Presidents Biden and Bolsonaro, as leaders of two great countries in the hemisphere, have a whole agenda to discuss, including cooperation on climate change and environmental issues that are two key political commitments at the summit,” Nichols said on Tuesday. (7).

In its ninth edition, the summit started on Monday and should end next Friday (10th).
The regional event is held periodically and marks the meeting of political leaders from the continent. The objective is to discuss and define actions to face problems shared by the region and advance in integration.
