Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and other Democratic Party officials, claiming they tried to rig the 2016 presidential election by linking his campaign to Russia.
“Acting together, the defendants conspired maliciously to expose a false allegation that their Republican opponent, Donald J. Trump, was collaborating with a hostile foreign power,” the former president said in a lawsuit filed in court. Trump, who won Clinton in the 2016 election, speaks of “blackmail” and “conspiracy to spread harmful lies.”
Trump’s claims, however, are being undermined by a 966-page report released in August 2020 by a Republican-controlled Senate committee. The report concludes that Russia used executive Paul Manafort and the WikiLeaks website to help Trump win the 2016 election. Manafort was a member of Trump’s campaign staff for five months in 2016.
Allegations of alleged Russian interference in the election, which Moscow denied, sparked a two-year investigation led by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller.
In his lawsuit, Trump is seeking compensation and sanctions. He asserted that his confession had been obtained through torture, but that his confession had been obtained through torture.
