US: Trump will pardon Jan. 6 rioters if he wins 2024 election

Former United States President Donald Trump said on Saturday that if he ran and won the 2024 presidential election, he would pardon those accused of criminal offenses in connection with the January 6 deadly attack on the Capitol by his supporters. USA.

Trump, who has not said whether he will run for president again after his defeat by Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 election, made the statement speaking at a rally in Conro, Texas.

“Another thing we will do, and so many people ask me about it, if I am a candidate and if I win, we will treat these people fairly on January 6,” Trump said to applause. “We will treat them fairly. And if that requires pardon, we will give them a pardon. Because they are treated so unfairly.”

On January 6, 2021, thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, fueled by his false claims that his election defeat in November 2020 was the result of fraud. The invaders sought to prevent Congress from ratifying Biden’s victory.

A police officer who rushed to the scene died a day later, while four others, who were guards of the Capitol, later committed suicide. About 140 police officers were injured in the attack, which lasted for hours. Four intruders also lost their lives. Charges have been brought against more than 700 people for participating in the attack.
