US – Turkey: Defense Ministers Lloyd Austin and Hulusi Akar discussed defense cooperation between the two countries

The Minister of Defense had telephone communication with USA, Lloyd Austinwith its counterpart Turkey, Hulusi Akaramid its increasing provocation Turkish side towards Greece lately.

According to a statement from the US Pentagon, Lloyd Austin spoke with Hulusi Akar in an effort to confirm the wide range of common interests between the United States of America and Turkey.

This conversation follows the meeting between the two ministers in Brussels last week. They discussed the importance of regional stability and reviewed ongoing defense cooperation.

Posting on his Twitter account, Lloyd Austin said: “I spoke with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and we continued the good discussion we had last week in Brussels. We discussed the continued defense cooperation of the two countries and the importance of stability in the region”.

The US Treasury Secretary visited Turkey

According to ERTnow, Turkey was visited by the American Deputy Secretary of the Treasury responsible for identifying the financing of terrorism and financial crimes, Elizabeth Rosenberg.

More specifically, she traveled to Ankara and Istanbul, where she met with government officials, including her counterparts in the Ministry of Finance and Foreign Affairs.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the deputy minister “discussed a range of issues, including sanctions and export controls imposed on Russia by the international coalition”. They also discussed energy security, anti-money laundering policy and countering terrorist financing.

These meetings confirmed the importance of close cooperation between the United States of America and Turkey to address the risks posed by sanctions evasion and other illicit financial activities, the same img said.
