The weekly number of applications for unemployment benefits in the USA marked a big decline that exceeded the market estimates.
In particular, in the week ended March 19, 187.00 new applications were received for unemployment benefits, compared to 215,000 the week before and 210,000 expected by analysts.
This is the lowest number recorded in the last almost 53 years, since September 1969.
At the same time, the number of continuing benefits fell to 1.35 million from 1.417 million in the previous week, while the market expected a smaller decline to 1.4 million.
Similarly, the number of continuing benefits is the lowest in 52 years since January 1970.
