The US House of Representatives may hold a vote tomorrow (Tuesday) on legislation seeking to ban the import of Russian energy products, an aide to Congress told Reuters.
The vote will also focus on suspending normal trade relations with Russia.
The text of the proposal is expected later Monday, the aide said. A group of lawmakers said in a joint statement that they “agreed on a legislative process to ban the import of energy products from Russia”.
The proposal would also give President Joe Biden the power to raise tariffs on goods from Russia and Belarus, and would require US Trade Representative Kathryn Thai to seek a moratorium on Russia’s participation in the World Trade Organization.
