US: Washington imposes sanctions on Russians over North Korean missile tests

The United States of America imposed new financial sanctions on North Koreaafter US and South Korean officials announced that Pyongyang had used its largest intercontinental ballistic missile system (ICBM) in two recent tests.

The sanctions, announced by the US Treasury Department, target two Russian citizens and three Russian entities accused of supporting North Korea in its two recent tests, which were presented as satellite launch tests.

The move comes amid concerns that North Korea may soon continue to threaten to resume full ICBM long-range and nuclear weapons tests for the first time since 2017.

North Korea “continues to fire ballistic missiles in flagrant violation of international law, which poses a serious threat to global security,” said US Undersecretary of the Treasury for Counter-Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Brian Nelson. “They are responding to this threat by targeting a network of individuals and entities based in Russia, collaborators because they helped North Korea obtain components for its illegal ballistic missile systems.”
