The US weekly jobless claims rose by 5,000 during the week of June 28rising to 238,000 from 233,000 previously, the Labor Department reported. The figure exceeded the 235,000 forecast by the market consensus.
The four-week average of claims for state unemployment benefits rose to 238,500 from 236,250, hitting its highest level in a year.
Finally, the Continuing unemployment claims have risen to 1,858,000 in the week of June 21 from 1,832,000 (revised downward from 1,839,000). This is its highest level since mid-February.
Dollar reaction
He Dollar Index (DXY) has fallen following the release of US jobs data, plummeting to two-day lows of 105.47. At the time of writing, the greenback is trading at 105.48, losing 0.20% on the day.
