US: Weekly jobless claims rose more than expected last week

U.S. citizens filing for unemployment insurance benefits increased by 221,000 in the week ending March 30, the U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) reported Thursday. The figure was just above the initial estimates (214,000) and the 212,000 of the previous week.

Other details from the release revealed that the forward seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% and the 4-week moving average stood at 214.250, an increase of 2,750K from the week's revised average. previous of 211,500.

Additionally, continuing claims decreased by 19,000 to 1.791 million in the week ended March 23 from 1,810,000.
