The unmanned vehicle has been on Earth since Saturday spacecraft X-37B as it touched down at Cape Canaveral, Florida, after 908 days in orbit.
The X-37Breminiscent of a space shuttle, was launched for the first time in 2010 and in its six missions to date has spent a total of more than 10 years in orbit, the manufacturer Boeing emphasizes in a press release.
“It continues to break records, providing our country with an unparalleled ability to test and rapidly integrate new space technologies.”said Boeing Vice President Jim Chilton.
The X-37B, which was launched in top secrecy, designed for the US Air Force by United Launch Alliance, a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
It reaches nine meters in length, has a wingspan of 4.5 m and is powered by solar panels.
Its mission was to evaluate the durability of certain materials and seeds in spaceand the production of energy from solar radiation.
