American citizens who submitted new applications for unemployment insurance increased to 223,000 for the week that ended on March 15, according to the US Department of Labor (DOL) on Thursday. This figure did not comply with the initial estimates and was a little higher than the revised total of the previous week of 221,000 (reviewed from 220,000).
The report also highlighted an seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 1.2%, while the four -week mobile average increased by 750 to 227,000 from the revised average of the previous week.
In addition, continued applications for unemployment subsidy increased by 33,000 to reach 1,892,000 for the week that ended on March 8.
Market reaction
The dollar manages to extend the rebound on Wednesday and leads to the index of the US dollar (DXY) to approach the 104.00 key barrier, in contrast to a greater bearish trend in the US yields throughout the curve.
