USA: A sniper shot at anyone he found and then committed suicide

Panic erupted in the United States when a sniper jumped to the top floor of an apartment building near a private college in Washington and shot anyone he could find. Four people were injured in the fire, while the perpetrator committed suicide when police raided his apartment.

According to police, Raymond Spencer, 23, from Fairfax, Virginia, was able to identify himself because of the video he uploaded to social networking sites. In it, he is depicted throwing out of a window; the title he typed has a typo: “Shotgun Shots!” («Shool shooting!»).

Washington Police Chief Robert Cody said in a press conference late last night that the video “looks like it’s completely genuine,” but it was unclear whether it was downloaded directly or after the young man opened fire.

The police issued earlier extraordinary newsletter with Rimand Spencer photos, which characterized “face of interest” in the event for the event. Over the district of large numbers of men, equipped with rifles and bulletproof shields.

The young man committed suicide as police raided his apartment, where he had set up a “sniper rifle”, with his rifle resting on a tripod, Mr. Cody clarified.

According to the police chief, the perpetrator chose his victims by chance, they were just passers-by.

Three people were taken to hospitals in the US capital: a 54-year-old and a 30-year-old, who are in serious condition, and a 12-year-old girl with a hand injury, Deputy Chief of Police Stuart Ermerman said earlier. The fourth victim, in his sixties, was offered medical treatment on the spot, as he suffered a minor injury, a bullet scratch, according to Mr. Emerman.

Eyewitnesses told Reuters and other media that they heard repeated gunshots in the Van Ness district (north), next to the private Edmund Burke School, where classes were coming to an end.

According to police chief Cody, the 23-year-old fired at least 20 bullets.

U.S. authorities say they are unaware of the motives of the young man, who opened fire on passersby on the busy Connecticut Avenue, home to several foreign embassies, Harvard Law School and the University of the District of Columbia campus.
