Technical consultations between the United States and Ukraine on a mineral agreement will start in Washington on Friday (11) and will not interfere with other Kiev financial commitments, Ukrainian-master vice-master, look at Stefanishna, Thursday (10).
US President Donald Trump is seeking a bilateral agreement of minerals as part of an effort to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. He also sees this as a way to recover billions of dollars spending on military assistance to Kiev, although help was not a loan.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels, Stefanishna said US and Ukraine teams will meet on Friday (11) and repeated Kiev’s position that any potential agreement will not conflict with the obligations linked to the help of the European Union or the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“Nothing can be negotiated with Ukraine in order to undermine Ukraine’s existing commitments and obligations, including financial,” she said. “This is something that is not subject to any format of negotiation.”
The Trump government has presented a broader sketch for the agreement, reviewing its original proposal, and is seeking privileged access to the riches of Ukraine’s underground, Reuters said last month.
