USA: Another case of the Omicron variant was recorded in Minnesota

Another case of the Omicron variant was found today in Minnesota, USA, in a man who had traveled to New York, but had not recently gone abroad, like the first case diagnosed in the country.

This announcement shows that the variant has started to be transmitted between people in the American territory.

Minnesota health officials have confirmed that they have identified this variant in a man who was fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

The man “developed mild symptoms on November 22 and was tested on November 24,” health officials said, adding that he had already recovered.

The man had visited New York for a meeting dedicated to Japanese cartoons a few days earlier.

This news “does not come as a big surprise”, Governor Tim Walsh commented in a press release.

The American health authorities have been waiting for days for Omicron to be located in the country.

Yesterday, a first case was confirmed in California, in another citizen who was also fully vaccinated, but who had returned from South Africa, where the new variant was initially identified.
