USA: At least 50 dead and incalculable damage from the passage of Hurricane Helen

Millions of Americans remain without power today after Hurricane Helen passed through the southeastern United States. At least 50 people were killed. Rescue teams are scrambling to restore power and deal with the aftermath of unprecedented flooding that has destroyed homes, roads and businesses in several states. The most deaths, a total of 19, were reported in South Carolina. Another 17 people were killed in Georgia, 11 in Florida, two in North Carolina and one in Virginia, according to the tally reported by AFP based on local authorities. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction caused by Hurricane Helen.
