USA: Biden’s popularity drops for the fourth consecutive week

US President Joe Biden’s popularity has fallen to 36%, falling for the fourth consecutive week, equaling the lowest level of his term, which he had reached in May, according to a poll conducted by the Ipsos Institute conducted by the news agency R last yesterday Wednesday.

The Democratic’s popularity has remained below 50% since August 2021, suggesting that his party is likely to lose control of at least one of the two houses of Congress in the November 8 by-elections.

34% of Americans consider the economy to be the most important problem facing the United States today. Mr Biden is being hit by rising inflation as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has pushed up fuel prices and caused new disruptions to global supply chains that have not yet recovered from the new coronavirus pandemic.

In the ranks of his party, the popularity of the Democrats fell marginally: 73% of those who said supporters of the Democrats said that they approve of the work of the president this week, a margin lower than the 74% recorded on June 15, but dramatically below 85% of last August. Only 7% of those who say Republicans support the performance of the veteran of American politics (from 11% on June 15).

Only 18% of Americans believe that the country is heading in the right direction.

Mr Biden’s popularity is approaching, but it has not yet reached the level of that of his predecessor, Republican Donald Trump, which fell to 33% in December 2017.

The national poll was conducted online, in English, on a representative sample of 1,002 adults, of whom 435 said they were Democrats and 379 Republicans. The statistical error margin is ± 4%.
