Those who now apply for American passport they will be able to choose whether they identify themselves as a man or a woman in the official state document and without even needing a medical certificate.
No paper is needed to state a different gender than what is stated in other public documents, just as the Foreign Minister stated, Anthony Blinken, on Wednesday.

Blinken also said that the ministry would soon allow citizens to identify themselves in the passport as “non-binary, intersex and non-binary”.
This will, however, take some time to implement, due to the “extensive system updates” required.
Blinken added that the move comes as another step in ensuring “the fair treatment of the American LGBT + community, regardless of gender or preference.”
The decision was welcomed by associations and unions ΛΟΑΤΚΙ, welcoming a third gender option, as the American Civil Liberties Union characteristically said.
