USA gives South Africa ambassador to withdraw from the country

The United States Department of the United States said on Monday (17) that the South African ambassador in the US should withdraw from the country by Friday (21).

According to the agency, the speeches of the diplomat were “unacceptable”.

The ultimatum follows the statement by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who announced last Friday (14) that ambassador Ebrahim Rasol will be classified as Persona Non grateful, calling the diplomat an “inciting politician of racism” that “ourselves ode America and President Donald Trump”.

Rubio republished an article from the right -wing site Breitbart that had a quote from Rasol saying that Trump was leading a white supremacy movement.

Speaking from its presidency and Department of International Relations, South Africa called the lamentable change, but said it remains committed to building mutually beneficial relationships and would address the matter through diplomatic channels.

Rasol presented his credentials to former President Joe Biden on January 13, marking the start of the mandate of the envoy, according to the South African Embassy website, which said this was Rasol’s second passage in Washington.
