USA: Hurricane Ida hits Louisiana – 122,000 homes and businesses without power

US President Joe Biden has warned that Typhon Aida is very dangerous and can cause huge damage, while the power outage can last for weeks, for the residents of the Gulf area.

Aida, a Category 4 hurricane, arrived in Port Furson in the afternoon. Louisiana, with winds blowing at a speed of 235 kilometers per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Already, more than 122,000 households and businesses have been left without electricity, mainly in the southeastern parts of the state.

The sea has already swelled in some parts of the coast and Highway 90, which connects Louisiana with Mississippi in places, has been turned into a river of mud, as seen in videos posted on social networking sites.

The National Meteorological Agency of New Orleans called on residents who do not have rooms without windows in their homes to be locked in the toilet or even in the closet to protect themselves. Traffic has been banned in some neighborhoods since Sunday afternoon.

“We are as prepared as we can, but we are worried about the dams,” said Kirk Lipin, a resident.

In Hurricane Katrina, 16 years ago, Louisiana dams could not withstand the pressure of water, breaking and flooding the State, resulting in the tragic death of 1,800 people.
