USA: It is confirmed that the “suspicious substance” that caused the alarm at the White House was cocaine

The laboratory analysis of the white powder found on Sunday (2/7) in the west wing of White House and alerted the security services, showed what the “suspicious substance” was cocaineas reported by the Washington Post.

Secret Service representative USA confirmed to Reuters that the detection of an “unknown object” led to the blockade of a wing of the White House, but referred a spokesman for the Fire Department for further clarification. “On Sunday afternoon, the White House complex was placed on precautionary lockdown as Secret Service officials investigated an unidentified object found in a workplace”, the spokesman said in a statement emailed to Reuters. The unknown object was located in the West Wing, he clarified.

The West Wing of the White House includes the Oval Office, the Cabinet meeting room, the press room, as well as presidential advisers’ offices and staff workspaces.

US President Joe Biden was not at the White House when the alarm sounded on Sunday afternoon. Hundreds of people work in or visit the West Wing of the White House every day.

The Secret Service spokesman noted that the Fire Department team called to evaluate the “suspicious substance” found it to be “non-hazardous.” An investigation ensued as to how he entered the presidential compound.

The Washington Post reports that the result of the lab analysis, transmitted over the radio, said “a yellow bar indicating cocaine hydrochloride.” The report notes that two “well-informed officials” confirmed to the Washington Post that the substance found at the White House was cocaine.
