According to the White House, Julie Fischer is a career diplomat serving as US Special Envoy for Belarus based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Her appointment was ratified in 2020 and marked the upgrade of Washington’s diplomatic mission in Belarus, as the United States has had to appoint an ambassador to the country since 2008.
In addition, Ms. Fischer has previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Europe and the European Union at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, and has served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the US Mission to NATO.
