US Secretary of State Marco Rubio offered American mediation in the conflict between Pakistan and India while talking separately with authorities in both countries, according to information from the State Department.
Rubio talked to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and with the deputy minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Ishaq to give, in separate calls.
During conversations, “emphasized that both sides need to identify methods to reduce tension and restore direct communication to avoid calculation errors,” reports.
He also talked earlier with the Pakistani army chief, Asim Munir, where he “continued to urge both parties to find ways” to reduce tension.
The Secretary of State offered American help to mediate “in order to avoid future conflicts,” according to the information.
This is the first American assistance offer mentioned in its connections with Pakistani or Indian authorities.
