USA: Omicron cases are on the rise, detected in 36 states

Preliminary data suggest that the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 is more contagious than Delta, said today the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Rosell Wallenski.

The data from the first investigations show that Omicron has a doubling time of about two days, Waleski noted while informing the journalists in the White House. Cases of this variant have been confirmed in at least 36 states so far, and health professionals expect them to increase in the coming weeks.

According to Wallensky, experts are beginning to notice an increase in cases among fully vaccinated residents of nursing homes. Among those who have had the booster dose of the vaccine, the risk of infection is ten times lower.

It is estimated that 3% of all US cases are due to Omicron.
