34-year-old homeless Sean Bikings drowned in artificial lake Tempe Town in Arizona USA last month, with police officers at the scene making no effort to save him. A video of the incident was made public by a camera held by the police officer, who was heard saying “I do not fall in”.
The incident occurred on May 28 at 05:00 when police responded to a call for a quarrel between the homeless man and his partner in the city center. The police check the couple and the Bickings tell them that he is going to swim. Although they inform him that swimming in Lake he is forbidden, he proceeds unscathed, falls into the water and does not reappear on the surface.
The 12-minute video stops and a message appears informing that the rest of the video material is very sensitive, according to a Reuters post, citing the APE-MPE.
The police try to calm down the homeless man’s partner and tell her that they will take a boat. She shouts: “She is drowning in front of your eyes and you will not help”. “Can you hear me?” are the last words attributed to the Bickens, who addresses the police. Later, one of them police officers says that “it has not come to the surface for about 30 seconds”.
The three police officers were made available. Authorities described the 34-year-old as a “homeless member of the Tempe community” and said his death was a “tragedy”.
