The United States implemented Stryker armored vehicles on its southern border with the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez as part of a joint task force between the border patrol and US federal security agencies.
The vehicles were placed in the El Paso area-including cities such as Sunland Park in New Mexico and El Paso in Texas-to protect the southern border and prevent migrants from entering the United States, Chad Campbell, Lieutenant Colonel of the First Battalion of the 41st Infantry Regiment in Fort Carson, Colorado, said.
Strykers are eight -wheeled armored vehicles designed to fill a gap between more strongly armored vehicles with less mobility and light vehicles with more mobile wheels.
Since taking office in January, US President Donald Trump has begun a wide repression of immigration to reduce illegal crossings on the US-Mixic border and deport record numbers of undocumented immigrants.
Measures include implementing a wide ban on asylum for migrants found on the southern border and sending troops to assist border safety efforts.
