One of President Donald Trump’s top advisers, whose name is also on the list of candidates for the Federal Bank (FED) presidency, said today that this organization should be “fully independent of political influences”, including Trump himself. “I would say that monetary policy, the federal bank, must be fully independent of political influences, including President Trump,” said National Economic Council director Kevin Hasset, speaking on CBS on Face the Nation. “It is a fact that we looked at what happened in the countries that allowed their leaders to take control of central banks and what tends to happen is that it is a recipe for inflation and disgust for consumers,” he added. At the same time, however, Hasset wondered whether “today’s Fed leadership is as independent as we would like” and added: “I believe it is a question that is being questioned today.”
