United States Vice President JD Vance said on Monday that Washington recognizes a stalemate in Russian war negotiations in Ukraine, while President Donald Trump prepares to talk to leaders from both countries.
“We know there is a certain impasse here. And I think the president will tell President Putin, ‘Look, are you serious? Are you serious?'” Vance to reporters while preparing to leave Italy after his meeting with Pope Leo XIV. Vance added that he had just spoken to Trump.
“The president was very clear. This is not the United States. We will not be stopped here. We want to see results. And the first great result we wanted to see, and with which we were happy, we wanted the Russians and the Ukrainians to present a real peace proposal to the table,” he added.
“If you are willing to stop killing, the United States are willing to be a partner for peace. This has been the proposal to the Russians, the Ukrainians and, frankly, to nations in other critical points around the world,” Vance concluded.
Trump’s conversation with Putin was scheduled to take place at 10am (Brasília time) this Monday (19). It is expected that the American then call Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, the White House said.
