USA: Salo with the death of African-American Simran Gordon – His family demands justice

His family is seeking justice African American Simran Gordon, who fell dead from police fire during a police raid on a supermarket on October 6 at Rochester of New York.

Yesterday, Wednesday, they were made public video from the incident, which have been filmed by the cameras worn on them by the two police officers who were summoned that night to intervene following a robbery complaint. One of them shot the 24-year-old Simran Gordon.

The first video shows this police officer to enter the store, to pulls his gun and then ask Gordon to get his hands out of his pockets. The policeman approaches him and insists. Gordon starts running down the aisle of the supermarket and the policeman follows him. When the image from the video catches him, it is no longer good because the policeman shakes a lot, but they are heard many shots in close distance.

“Throw the gun, throw the gun!” Shouts the police officer to Gordon, who is on the ground, apparently injured.

In the other video, the other police officer arrives at Gordon’s place at the time lies already at terrain, groaning. With her foot she seems to push an object from his hand and then she is heard to say: “I have it”.

New York State Attorney General Leticia James said Wednesday that the release of the videos “does not equate to the expression of any opinion on the guilt or innocence of either side,” according to the Athens News Agency.

Rochester police released a subtitle of the video on Tuesday, stressing that Gordon was armed and shot first.

However, many members of his family told local media that they did not believe in this version. “It was not an exchange of fire. It was not a shooting incident. It was just a murder “ said Simran’s uncle, Lyndon Gordon.

For his part, the lawyer of the Yusuf Taha family estimated that the publication of the videos “raises more questions for us, instead of giving answers”. “We call on the Attorney General’s Office to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation into his death. (…) We will continue to seek justice for Simran and his family,” Taha added.

In 2020, protests erupted in Rochester after him death of Daniel Proud, another black man who died after being violently arrested by police.

Police put handcuffs and a hood on the head of 41-year-old Proud after arresting him on the street when he had suffered a psychotic episode. A policeman was squeezing the hood with his hands and Proud lost consciousness. He died a week later in hospital without ever recovering from the coma he had fallen into.

ATTENTION, HARD IMAGES:

According to the autopsy, Proud died of “suffocation from violence”, but a jury decided not to charge the police officers who arrested him.
