USA: Second execution of death row inmate in Texas in 2022

A death row inmate for the 2006 murder of a real estate agent was executed in Texas on Wednesday, authorities said, the second execution of a death row inmate in the large southern state this year.

Kosul Chadakuman, 41, was convicted of the 2006 stabbing death of Sarah Walker, 40, inside a model home.

Despite the fact that his genetic material had been found under the victim’s fingernails and witness statements linking him to the crime scene, Kosul Chadakuman has always maintained his innocence.

“To Sarah Walker’s family, I hope my death brings peace,” were his last words, according to Texas authorities.

Kosul Chadakuman had tried several times to appeal his sentence, arguing that the evidence linking him to the crime was scientifically insufficient. But the appeals court ruled that the opposite was true and gave the green light for his execution.

Texas, the conservative state that executes by far the most inmates in the U.S., executed three inmates in 2021. Three more executions are scheduled this year, according to the state Department of Justice’s website.
