USA: Student accused of school shooting to have first hearing this Friday (6)

The 14-year-old suspected of carrying out a shooting attack at a Georgia school in the United States will appear in court for the first time this Friday (6), the director of communications for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, Glenn Allen, told CNN.

He will appear in a virtual hearing, although the timing of that hearing is not yet clear. The student faces four counts of first-degree murder, according to charging documents obtained by CNN.

The suspect was transferred to the Gainesville Juvenile Detention Center overnight. Although he is charged as an adult, he is being held in juvenile custody because he is a minor, Allen said.

The director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the investigative agency of the state of Georgia, Chris Hosey, said in a press conference on Wednesday (4) at night that the authorities are still investigating how the young man took an “AR-type weapon” that was used in the attack into the school.

At least four people died in the attack, including two students and two teachers. Another nine people were injured, according to authorities.
